Music Therapy
We are looking for financial help in order to start new sessions of Music Therapy for our pupils.
We are currently running two days of music therapy a week but those days do not cover the need for this therapy amongst our children. The music therapy is non-curricular activity, therefore is not funded by the government and we are financially dependent on grants and extra funds.
Music therapy is an established evidence-based clinical intervention and a psychological therapy recognised by the NHS, NICE and OFSTED. Music therapy uses music as a means to achieve non-musical aims and to support a child’s psychological, emotional, social, communicative, cognitive, physical and sensory needs.
Both the pupil and therapist adopt an active role by playing instruments, singing, listening, improvising, song-writing and engaging in musical activities focusing on supporting pupils to move towards achieving their potential.
The project will be delivered by an external music therapy specialist, Mrs. Lucy Collings Pettit, registred with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Member of the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT).
